About CloseWord

A word game about how ideas sit next to each other.

CloseWord is a daily semantic guessing game. Instead of asking whether a guess has the right letters, it asks whether the guess lives near the hidden answer in meaning. A cold word gives you a boundary, a warm word gives you a direction, and a very close word tells you the answer is somewhere nearby.

Meaning over spelling

CloseWord is not about anagrams, prefixes, or dictionary trivia. Each guess is compared by meaning, so broad concepts, categories, and related ideas can move you closer even when the letters look nothing alike.

AI-assisted ranking

Words are represented as vectors in a semantic space, then ranked by similarity to the hidden answer. The result is a puzzle where every guess teaches you a little about the answer's neighborhood.

One puzzle per day

The daily format keeps the game focused. Everyone gets the same target for the day, while archived puzzles remain available for practice and comparison.

What makes a good puzzle

A good CloseWord answer is common enough to be guessable, specific enough to create an interesting search space, and connected to many neighboring ideas. Extremely obscure words, proper nouns, and terms with only one narrow context are avoided because they can make the ranking feel arbitrary.

Hints are selected from words that are meaningfully close to the answer without giving it away immediately. The goal is to make each puzzle feel solvable through reasoning rather than luck.
